How to create a folder that is not synced with OneDrive

Storing EndNote libraries in cloud-based platforms like OneDrive or iCloud, as well as on network drives (e.g., I: or H:), may lead to corruption. To mitigate this risk, it is recommended to create a new folder on the local (C:) drive for EndNote libraries. This prevents OneDrive from synchronizing EndNote libraries on NSLHD PCs, ensuring their integrity.

1

If the computer is synchronising with OneDrive, the blue cloud icon will be visible in the Taskbar tray. Follow the steps below so that the EndNote libraries are not syncrhonised to OneDrive.

2

Open File Explorer from Start menu

3

Under "This PC", click on (C:) Local disk to view the C: folder

4

Open the Data folder

5

Right click on blank space, click on New and then click on Folder

6

Rename "New folder" to EndNote Libraries

7

Right click on EndNote Libraries folder icon and click on Pin to Quick Access

8

Open EndNote from the Start menu or Desktop shortcut

9

The EndNote Libraries folder is listed under Quick Access

10

Select Create a New Library (for first time users)

11

Click on EndNote Libraries folder pinned to the Quick access and press Save

12

To move existing EndNote libraries into EndNote Libraries folder, navigate to the existing folder and highlight both the .data folder and the EndNote library

13

Right click on the highlight area and click on Copy

14

Click on EndNote Libraries folder pinned to the Quick access

15

Right click to paste the copied .data folder and EndNote library.

16

EndNote libraries saved in this folder will not be synchronised with OneDrive.
